About the project

The effects of the Covid 19 pandemic have contributed to the suboptimal well-being of both students and teachers at many schools, and Banse La Grace and Saltibus Combined Schools are no exception. Lifestyle changes, loss of jobs and low or no income are some of the factors that have directly impacted many, leaving students and teachers with a significantly altered teaching/learning landscape to contend with. The team of teachers is interested in creating a safe haven for both students and teachers.

Progress

The teacher team spoke with other teachers as well as with students. teachers expressed a desire for a physical space (teachers’ lounge). Students were asked to create artwork illustrating their ideas of a safe and happy school.

The team prototyped the teachers’ lounge at Banse La Grace, which allowed teachers to get together to bond and decompress. The more bulky and expensive materials for the prototype were borrowed from staff to set up the prototype. The team would like to use the students’ artwork to design a solution for students in the future.
