About the project

Teachers observed the need for students in kindergarten to improve their ability to blend and segment, in order to build to effective reading. Kindergarten is a crucial foundational learning period, and this team aims to find a solution that will lead to an improvement in students’ blending and segmenting skills as a first step towards reading competence.


This team began work by reflecting on the strategies needed to build this skill in students. They also planned to speak with other Grade K teachers to determine the range of practices that are being used in the classroom, and to ideate solutions.

However, the team has decided to halt their participation in the cycle because of their inability to allocate time to engage in the full innovation process.
